Beginning my Design & design on my documentary:

At the start i want to begin with a 10 second clip of flashing images including facebook and tumblr. With this i have already taken a video of someone logging into facebook coming up with the sign forbidden. Also a picture of the login/welcome page to facebook, implying the idea that the school blocked facebook had been infact hacked.
  • what kind of documentary will it be?
    • Expository
    • Observational
    • Interactive
    • Reflective
  • What genre will it be?
    • Educational/Informational
    • Ethnographic
    • Social Awareness
    • Propaganda
    • Slice of Life
    • Artistic
What are the elements and who are the people you will need?
- As my documentary is based on social media it tends to effect teenagers, hence i will be using various people/students from the MYP as most of them have/use Facebook.

Shooting schedule:
Friday January 27th: i plan on taping a few students these days (however, seeings we are not allowed to tape in school, i will create my footage in my apartment building).

Monday January 30th: i should have most of my footage, as i plan on using mostly archival footage.

Monday February 13th: footage complete.

 Editing schedule:
I plan to edit during mostly every second lesson we have therefore i can work on the video itself during every first lesson.

In general the website explains what Tumblr is, when it was created, and why people find themselves on the site daily. The reason for using this site it because I wanted to get the point of view from people just like her. She is still in high school therefore she is going through that type of phase meaning she can relate to the rest of the student body.

So far i have looked at many videos/archival footage on Youtube, along with a variety of websites. I think that all the above websites i have taken notes on and i plan to place them into my video.

Investigation:

I decided to review certain documentaries:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNBtwM2Ps6o&feature=fvsr
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Mgm4Crvs2I

Here are the notes i took on it:

Many people, of all agers whether they are a teenager not have come across the problem of social media addiction. In general addictions are seen as “one of the toughest problems facing our culture today” according to the website: http://healthymind.com/addictions.html
According to this website there are two key elements that help contain and comprehend the idea of addictions. Tolerance and factors that influence it.

Today there are over 400 millions users of facebook
500 billions minutes per month

“im always on facebook” the add
Phone companies have found a way to get the attention of viewers. They have done this by adding internet to the phone, there is even a facebook app on most phones today.
Always something to bring you back- games, communication ETC.

Access is everywhere

Housebond- if you are grounded you get your phone taken off you facebook is still there to communicate with.

“eating my life away”

Staying up late, putting off work that needs to be completed.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
1. What makes social media websites so addicting?
2. What are the physical and mental effects of such addictions?
3. What can be done to "get rid" of the addiction?

MY DESIGN GOAL:
Is to educate the people of M5 on the current affair of media addictions (such as Facebook and Tumblr)

TARGET MARKET:
Class of M5, and other teenagers who are uneducated on this topic.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS:
1.Research should be finished within 2 weeks of investigating.
2. All footage must be complete within at least 2 weeks prior before the documentary is due.
3. images for the video must be found imminently in order to begin creating the documentary.
4. archival footage must be collected within 3 weeks prior beginning.

EVALUATION METHODS:
My documentary will be evaluated by others viewing my video, following that there will be a list of questions for them to fill out for me to receive feedback.

STANDARDS FOR SUCCESS:
My documentary will be successful if and only if the viewer receives information about the topic and learns facts that they did not know prior before watching my video.

THE PROBLEM

The problem is to create a documentary for M5's viewing on a topic of your own choice.

My basic idea was on the mind map, however, here is my main idea below:
i want to create a documentary on addictions to social media websites such as Facebook and Tumblr. I plan to use students in M5 because most are always on Facebook and even Tumblr.

PLAN

Step One:
Task: My idea
Process: I have decided to create a game that teaches the player a little Spanish (preferably students with a little Spanish background/beginner level). So first I need to explore different worlds to see which one will best fit my game. I tried to create a simple background but then I had the thought of using someone else’s except I will adapt and change it to fit my idea. This should only take a restricted amount of time, in order to start placing other objects and lands i can place in my world/game to change it.
Due Date: 3/4-11-11

Step two:
Task: Programming Kodu’s
Process: I programmed a few Kodu’s and start creating the world, along with adapting the world to my idea. Create a certain layout, adding objects. I have decided to use a few Kodu's that were already placed in the world.
Due Date: 23-11-11

Step three:
Task: Programming Kodu’s continued
Process: The fish that was already located in the world was programmed to assist the player with their first clue towards completing the game. Also there was a man on top of a bridge who asks for a coin in order to cross the bridge i thought i was a great idea so i adjusted it and moved the coin further away from the player.
Due Date: 23-5th-11-11
Step four:
Task: figuring out the clues and ideas of the game.
Process: basically for this task I brainstormed of what I could do to lead the player into the next clue and what the clue is. With this so far I added what the fish says to the player when the player bumps into him which is the first clue. This leads the player to "una casa roja" meaning a red house.
Due Date: 28-11-11

Step five:
Task: exploring the rest of the world and adding Kodu’s and objects. Plus evaluating and testing the game.
Process: I added apples, trees and a few Kodu’s. Along with I played the game and figured out the faults along with editing them. When the player bumped into the apple, they eat it and receive a few points. I had completed a total of two clues, i did not create another clue as i was limited in time. I asked my peers to complete my evalutation questions, therefore allowing me to have a variety of responses. I reflected on these responses, therefore listing the objects and ideas i could improve on.
 Due Date: 2-12-11
